The lack of accurate and accessible molecular diagnostic technology has become a major obstacle to public health capacity building in many underdeveloped areas. Due to the surge in demand for nucleic acid detection during the COVID-19 epidemic, the development and application of molecular diagnostic technology in China has grown rapidly. According to the report of the National Health Commission, as of May 11, 2022, a total of 13000 medical and health institutions and 153000 technicians across the country have provided COVID-19 nucleic acid detection services, with a total detection capacity of nearly 57 million tubes per day. Such a vast nucleic acid testing capability is a valuable asset for China's society and healthcare system. How to leverage and utilize the existing nucleic acid testing capabilities is also a key concern for China's healthcare system.
